ATU Launches Digital Skills Initiative with Silvadew Technologies

Accra Technical University (ATU), in collaboration with Silvadew Technologies, has launched a digital skills initiative designed to give students access to professional training, practical digital skills and industry-recognized certifications alongside their academic studies.

The initiative was officially launched on Thursday, 3 September 2026, at the University’s Lecture Theatre Auditorium. The event brought together students, University officials and representatives from the technology and professional training sector.

The launch marks an important stage in the collaboration between ATU and Silvadew Technologies, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations on 20 July 2026.

Connecting Academic Education with Professional Skills

Through the initiative, ATU students will have access to short professional courses and certification opportunities covering digital and emerging technology areas.

The program is intended to complement students’ academic studies by providing additional opportunities to develop practical skills that can be applied in the workplace.

The initiative also places emphasis on ICT skills, entrepreneurship and career development, recognizing that students increasingly need to combine academic qualifications with practical and professional capabilities as they prepare for employment and the changing digital economy.

The collaboration reflects a broader effort to strengthen the connection between academic institutions and industry.

Encouraging Students to Pursue Professional Certifications

Speaking at the opening of the program, the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Dr. Joseph Dadzie, encouraged students to take advantage of the professional certification programs available through the initiative.

He also expressed appreciation to Silvadew Technologies for supporting the University’s efforts to expose students to professional training and opportunities within the technology industry.

Professional certifications can provide students with an additional way to demonstrate specific technical competencies alongside their academic qualifications.

For students preparing to enter technology-driven workplaces, this creates an opportunity to develop skills in areas that extend beyond the traditional university curriculum.

Strengthening University–Industry Collaboration

The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Nana Yaw Asabere, explained that the initiative supports Pillar 4 of ATU’s Strategic Plan, which focuses on strengthening collaboration between the University and industry.

According to Prof. Asabere, the program is intended to make digital training and certification more accessible and affordable to students.

He also encouraged students to develop ICT and entrepreneurial skills that can help them create opportunities for themselves after graduation.

The initiative therefore forms part of a wider approach to university education in which academic knowledge is complemented by practical skills, professional development and exposure to industry.

Preparing Students for a Changing Workplace

Launching the initiative, the Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Prof. Engr. Amevi Acakpovi, encouraged students to complement their academic qualifications with professional and entrepreneurial skills.

He noted that changes in technology and the workplace require graduates to continually develop new capabilities.

The Vice-Chancellor urged students to make use of the short courses and certification opportunities available through the initiative, particularly programs focused on emerging technologies.

This emphasis on continuous learning reflects the increasingly important role of digital skills across different sectors of the economy.

Technology now influences areas ranging from finance and business operations to education, manufacturing, communications, healthcare and professional services. Developing relevant digital competencies can therefore form an important part of preparing students for a technology-driven employment environment.

Silvadew Demonstrates Its Online Learning Platform

As part of the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of Silvadew Technologies, Mr. Kwame Ampong, provided students with a practical demonstration of the Silvadew online learning platform.

The demonstration showed participants how to access the platform, select training programs and track their learning progress.

The platform is designed to allow learners to follow individual learning pathways at their own pace, while also supporting corporate training programs developed around organizational and industry needs.

The digital learning model provides students with an additional avenue for professional development alongside their existing university studies.

It also creates the possibility of connecting individual learners with a broader ecosystem of professional courses, certifications and career-focused training.

From the Classroom to the Workplace

One of the key objectives of the ATU–Silvadew collaboration is to help narrow the gap between academic learning and workplace requirements.

University education provides students with important theoretical knowledge and academic foundations. Professional training can complement this foundation by allowing learners to develop specific technical and practical competencies.

The partnership therefore creates a pathway in which students can pursue:

Academic Education → Practical Skills → Professional Certification → Career Development

This approach is particularly relevant in technology-related fields, where tools, platforms and workplace practices continue to evolve.

Building Digital and Entrepreneurial Capacity

The initiative is not limited to technical training.

ATU’s leadership has also highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and ICT skills in helping students create opportunities for themselves after graduation.

For students, this can mean developing the ability to use technology not only as employees but also as entrepreneurs, freelancers, consultants, innovators and creators of digital businesses.

The combination of technical knowledge, professional certification and entrepreneurial thinking can provide students with multiple pathways as they transition from university into the broader economy.

The July 2026 Memorandum of Understanding

The launch follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ATU and Silvadew Technologies on 20 July 2026.

Under the collaboration, Silvadew is working with the University to provide students with access to short professional courses, practical digital training and internationally recognized certifications intended to support their professional and career development.

The MoU provides the foundation for the ongoing collaboration between the University and Silvadew Technologies and establishes a framework through which professional digital learning opportunities can be made available to ATU students.

A Partnership Focused on Future-Ready Skills

The ATU–Silvadew initiative comes at a time when digital transformation is reshaping the skills required across the global workforce.

Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data analytics, cybersecurity, software development, automation and other digital technologies are changing how organizations operate and how professionals perform their jobs.

For students, developing relevant skills before graduation can provide an opportunity to become familiar with emerging technologies and professional tools while still in an academic environment.

The partnership between ATU and Silvadew Technologies provides a platform for this type of collaboration by bringing together the University’s academic environment and Silvadew’s digital training and professional development platform.

Looking Ahead

The launch of the Digital Skills Initiative represents the beginning of a broader collaboration between Accra Technical University and Silvadew Technologies.

As the initiative develops, students will have opportunities to explore professional courses and certifications that complement their academic programs and support their preparation for the workplace.

For ATU, the initiative strengthens the University’s focus on industry collaboration, practical training and student development.

For Silvadew Technologies, the partnership provides an opportunity to work directly with students within a major Ghanaian technical university and contribute to the development of digital and professional skills.

Ultimately, the initiative is built around a simple objective: helping students combine academic knowledge with practical, professional and digital skills that can support their development beyond the classroom.

The ATU–Silvadew partnership demonstrates how universities and technology organizations can collaborate to create additional learning opportunities for students and strengthen the connection between education, industry and the future of work.
